Cricket, climate & circularity

  • Cricket is the world’s second most-played sport and relies on large amounts of specialist gear and clothing, much of which has a significant environmental footprint. In England and Wales alone, an estimated 1,646 tonnes of cricket equipment becomes waste each year. While sustainability efforts in the sport have often focused on venues and events, far less attention has been given to the clothing and gear players use.

Remaykit is delighted to be collaborating with The Centre for Sustainable Design at UCA in this free, hands-on workshop invites local residents to rethink, redesign, and reimagine cricket clothing through circular economy, turning waste into new possibilities. Working with donated end-of-life cricket garments that would otherwise be discarded, the workshop offers participants the opportunity to experiment with ideas for reuse, repair, and redesign in a fun and collaborative environment.

Participants will also gain a better understanding of how cricket clothing can be redesigned to reduce waste, learn about circular design principles, and explore how creativity and sustainability can come together in practical, hands-on ways. The emphasis is on learning by doing, making, testing ideas, and discovering how small design changes can have a significant environmental impact.

The event is part of the Circular Cultures in Wandsworth (2C) Project, funded by UKRI via University for the Creative Arts, AHRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA).

Facilitated by: Professor Martin Charter and Dr Lilian Sanchez Moreno from The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA, and Malsara Thorne from Remaykit.

Upcycle and repair workshop

  • Remaykit was excited to be part of the 8th Circular Economy Week #CEweek2025, 20–26 October 2025
  • Organised by ReLondon, this inspiring week brought together a wide range of organisations across London, the UK, and beyond to celebrate and promote the circular economy—highlighting ways we can all help keep products in use for longer and reduce unnecessary consumption.
  • To mark the occasion, Remaykit hosted a special Mend, Repair & Create workshop on Saturday, 25 October. People who attended got hands-on advice and inspiration from some of the talented creatives who took part in our recent fashion show. 

Remaykit is a platform for showcasing creative upcyling, recycling and reusing talents.
